I was recently in northern Iraq with Samir hosting a peace camp for leaders and speaking at a series of outreach meetings. We listened to many painful stories from the recent conflicts, as well as to many stories of courage. Our mission is to validate people’s stories, to lead them to forgiveness and then to invite them to receive the peace of God in Jesus.

During the publicly advertised and televised evening outreach meetings, we were able to pray with hundreds of people. It was amazing to experience Samir’s evangelism gift in Arabic! One man who requested prayer was a well-known Mullah from the region. He had been at the center of the revolution in Egypt, but became disillusioned with the leaders, and then began asking serious questions about Mohammed. His quest for truth had taken him throughout the region and to the highest academies of learning. Within the past year, he found Jesus, or rather, Jesus found him. He is now a spiritual infant, learning how to follow Jesus in all of life. It was a privilege to pour discipleship training and prayer into his life. He could very well be another apostle Paul to his people.

“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you’” (John 20:21 NIV). As we live this Gospel of peace among the least reached, Isaiah’s vision of the nations beating their swords into ploughshares (Isaiah 2:1-5) becomes a reality. Let’s courageously live this Gospel in the conflicts down the street and around the world!

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray that the Gospel of peace would continue to transform the hearts of these key leaders, and that they would become disciples who make disciples.
  • Pray for those living in conflict areas around the globe, that they would know the peace of Jesus in their lives.
  • Pray for those in your own cities who have been displaced by conflict. As disciples, each of us has been sent by Jesus - pray and ask what his invitations are for you today.

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free?
