May 2018

This past week, I was in Burundi (Great Lakes region of Africa) with a team of business leaders from North America. We hosted a leadership conference for several days, calling business leaders to see their work as full-time ministry. We then had the privilege to visit their businesses, hear their challenges and pray for them as a team! God is using restaurants, auto lube shops, telecommunications, hair salons and cement companies as outposts for the Gospel in Burundi!

We also visited the Batwa (pygmy) community transformation project where our team has been involved in a large education project that will soon train 1000 students from across the country. To see a short video about how education has transformed the life of a Batwa boy named Oswald, click here.

The project among the Batwa also includes a medical center, which has a reputation as the best in the region. Recently, a paralyzed woman came for treatment after visiting many other clinics and witch doctors. After the staff could not find the source of her paralysis, they asked if they could pray for her healing in the name of Jesus. She agreed and Jesus healed and delivered her that very day! Many Batwa worship spirits and live in fear, but Jesus is setting them free, giving them a hope and a future! The Gospel transforms businesses, families, communities and nations!

Every one of us is called to live on mission where we are! “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Luke 10:2). Jesus is inviting us to see our businesses, schools and clinics as places to live and share the Gospel. Can we see the harvest?

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free? Knowing who we are in Christ is vital to our freedom.
