In the dream she was a maternity nurse attending to a pregnant woman named “Ishmael.” Ishmael came for a check-up and the nurse administered a number of tests before she determined the baby was fine. In the next scene of her dream, Ishmael was in labor and her baby was in distress. The attending doctor became fearful and contacted the nurse to inquire what procedures she had followed in the earlier check-up. She replied she had done everything correctly and the baby would be fine. The delivery proceeded and Ishmael delivered a healthy baby girl.

As the intercession team prayed into this dream, they felt it was directed at leaders in the body of Christ, but they were to wait on the Lord’s timing to share it. On the last day of our conference, the intercessor who had this dream woke up “pregnant” with this word from the Lord, and very much in labor. During a prayer time that morning with Turkish ministry leaders, the intercessor delivered the word and its message was received. God’s heart was for the descendants of Ishmael to come into the fullness of their inheritance as children of God. The wound of Ishmael’s rejection was healed in Christ. Through Jesus, we are all recipients of grace, therefore there are no second class members of God’s family.

When Paul contrasts the “slave woman” and the “free woman” in Galatians 3:21-31, he is referring to the Judaizers as the descendants of Hagar, the slave woman – not the descendants of Ishmael! In Christ, we are all “children of promise.” What would have happened to Mohammed if he had heard this message in Mecca in the 7th century? His many visions of God’s promises to Ishmael, not Isaac, would have been unnecessary. As we call Muslims everywhere to their inheritance in Christ, we are engaging a spiritual battle that extends back to Abraham’s promised inheritance to his sons. In this promise fulfilled through Christ, “all peoples on earth (including Ishmael’s descendants) will be blessed” (Genesis 12:3). Let’s live and share this good news in a world that is looking for a family, a home and an inheritance.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray that God would reveal himself to Muslims through dreams and vision, especially during the month of Ramadan (June 18 – July 16), and that they would understand the fullness of their inheritance as his children.
  • Pray for an increase in the gift of intercession; that many men and women would join together, crying out to the Father for those who have not yet heard the Gospel, engaging in this spiritual battle.
  • Pray that we would truly live as those who have been adopted into God’s family, and out of an understanding of what has been given to us in Christ, actively invite others into this family.

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free? Knowing who we are in Christ is vital to our freedom.
